What decides which opener is right?
What's above the garage. A bedroom or office over the garage is the main reason to pick a belt drive — it runs far quieter than a chain.
Ceiling height and obstacles. If there's a beam, a low ceiling or storage racks where the rail would go, a wall-mount opener frees the ceiling entirely.
Power outages. Long Island loses power in storms. Battery backup keeps the door working for a while without electricity.
Checking from your phone. Wi-Fi models let you open, close and check the door from the app — useful for deliveries, kids coming home, or a detached garage you can't see from the house.
Door size and weight. Heavy wood and oversized doors need an opener with enough power, and the door itself must be balanced first.
Bought your own opener?
We install customer-supplied openers starting at $285. Our warranty then covers the installation, and the opener itself is covered by its manufacturer once you register it. If you'd like us to supply the opener instead, our 3-year opener warranty covers both, on top of the manufacturer's warranty.
What's included in an installation
- Mounting the opener and rail, and wiring the wall control and safety sensors.
- Setting the travel limits and the close force, then testing auto-reverse.
- Programming your remotes, keypad and car HomeLink buttons before we leave.
- Showing you how to release the door by hand during a power outage.
One thing to check before the visit: the garage needs a power outlet near the ceiling where the opener goes. If there isn't one, the homeowner has an electrician add it.
Opener installation cost questions
Does the OPENER99 coupon work on every model?
It takes $99 off a new opener we supply and install. It doesn't apply to installing an opener you bought yourself.
Is the senior discount good on openers?
Yes. The 10% senior and military discount also applies to openers.
How long does a new opener installation take?
Most standard installations are done in one visit. A wall-mount unit or an 8-foot rail extension can take a little longer.
Can a new opener fix a door that's hard to lift?
No — a door that's hard to lift by hand has a spring or balance problem, and an opener pulling on it will wear out fast. We check and balance the door before installing any opener.
