Garage Door Help by Phone: Try These Fixes Before We Come
Plenty of garage door problems turn out to be small: a dead remote battery, a sensor knocked out of line, a lock button pressed by accident. Call us first. A technician will walk you through the safe checks, and if the door still won’t work, we come out.

How our phone help works
1. Call or message. Call 1-800-336-9270, or send Abby a photo or a short video on WhatsApp. Tell us what the door does — or doesn’t do.
2. We walk you through it. A technician tells you exactly what to look at and what to press, one step at a time, and only the checks that are safe for a homeowner.
3. Fixed — or we come out. If the door works again, that’s it: no charge. If not, we book a visit and bring the parts.
Problems we can often solve together by phone
The remote stopped working. Most of the time it’s the battery. If a new battery doesn’t help, the wall control may be in lock (vacation) mode, which blocks every remote — or the remote needs to be programmed again. We tell you which button to use on your LiftMaster, Chamberlain or Genie.
The door won’t close, or the opener light is blinking. Usually the safety sensors near the floor can’t see each other. We help you check the sensor lights, clean the lenses and line them up. More on this: garage door won’t close and opener light blinking.
Nothing happens at all. We check the simple things with you first: is the opener plugged in, did a GFCI outlet or a breaker trip, is the wall control working.
The power is out. We explain how to use the red emergency release to open the door by hand, and how to reconnect it when the power comes back. See opening a garage door in a power outage.
The keypad outside doesn’t work. A weak keypad battery or a lost code is the usual cause; we walk you through changing the battery and setting a new PIN.
The door is frozen to the ground. On a cold Long Island morning the bottom seal can freeze to the driveway. Don’t keep pressing the button — it strains the opener. We tell you how to free the seal safely.
The door opens by itself. A stuck button, a neighbor’s remote or a failing wall control can all do it. See garage door opens by itself.
Stop — don’t try these yourself
Some problems are dangerous to touch. If you see any of these, keep people and cars away from the door, don’t use the opener, and call us:
- A broken spring — a gap in the coil above the door, or a loud bang from the garage.
- A snapped or loose lift cable.
- A door that is crooked or off its track.
- A bent track or a panel hanging loose.
- A door that drops fast when you lift it by hand.
Springs and cables hold the full weight of the door under high tension. These are always a technician’s job.
When we need to come out
If the phone fix doesn’t work, or the problem is a spring, cable or track, we book a visit — often the same day when a technician is available. On a regular day there is no service charge for a home visit. You get the price in writing before any work starts, repairs carry a 3-year warranty and new springs a 5-year warranty.
What to have ready when you call
- The brand and model on the opener (on the sticker on the motor unit).
- What the door does: doesn’t move, starts and reverses, makes a noise, goes up crooked.
- Whether the small lights on the two floor sensors are on, off or blinking.
- If you can, a short video of the door and a photo of the springs above it.
Phone help questions
Is the garage door help by phone really free?
Yes. Talking you through a problem costs nothing, and you are under no obligation to book a visit afterwards.
Do I need to be a 1 Stop customer to call for help?
No. Anyone on Long Island can call or message us, whether we installed the door or not.
What happens if the problem can’t be fixed over the phone?
We book a visit, often the same day when a technician is available. On a regular day there is no service charge for a home visit: you only pay for the repair, and you get the price in writing before any work starts.
Can I send a video of my garage door instead of calling?
Yes. Send a short video or a few photos to Abby on WhatsApp (917-544-6146). A video of the whole door opening and closing, plus a photo of the springs above it, usually tells us most of what we need.
When can I call for phone help?
Sunday through Friday. Phones are answered day and night until Shabbat; we are closed on Shabbat and Jewish holidays.
