The Genie we install
| Genie model, installed | What it is | Starting at |
|---|---|---|
| StealthDrive 750 | Belt drive | $575 |
A belt drive like the StealthDrive is a good fit when there's a bedroom or living space next to or above the garage, because it runs much more quietly than a chain.
Genie problems we see most
The opener runs but the door doesn't move. On many Genie screw-drive and chain-drive openers, a worn drive gear or carriage is the cause. We diagnose it on the spot and quote the part.
The door goes down, touches the floor and goes back up. The close limit or force setting needs adjusting, or the door is binding somewhere in the track. Limit recalibration starts at $89.
The remote works only up close. A weak remote battery, a damaged antenna wire on the opener head, or interference from LED bulbs in the opener light are common causes. Remote programming starts at $89.
It won't close and the light blinks. As with most brands, Genie openers refuse to close when the safety sensors don't see each other. Realigning sensors starts at $89; a new pair at $175.
Screw drive, chain or belt?
Older Genie openers are often screw drives — a long threaded rod moves the door. They're simple, but they're noisy and the rod needs the right grease to run smoothly. When a screw drive needs a major repair, many homeowners switch to a belt drive. We'll give you both prices so you can choose.
Genie warranty
A Genie we supply and install comes with our 3-year warranty plus Genie's own warranty once you register it. If you provide the opener, installation starts at $285 and our warranty covers the installation.
Genie questions
Can you replace a Genie with a LiftMaster, or the other way around?
Yes. Any brand can replace any other on a standard residential door, as long as the door is balanced and the new rail fits the ceiling height.
Why does my Genie opener reverse in cold weather?
Grease in the track and opener thickens in the cold, so the door needs more force to move and the opener reads that as an obstruction. A tune-up ($125) and a force adjustment usually fix it.
Do you fix Genie keypads?
Yes. We reprogram or replace keypads; a new LiftMaster keypad is $149 if you're switching brands.
